Megan Thee Stallion is fully independent. The rapper, who was previously signed to 1501 Entertainment, will be releasing new music but on her own terms and with her own coins.

"This part of my album is very much so funded by Megan Thee Stallion because we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now," she explained on Instagram Live. "We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf—ing Hot Girl Productions! The next s— y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We are in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one."

"It’s really just me this go around until we sign to a new label. But I don’t want to sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself," she shared.

Megan's Battle With Her Label

It is no secret that Megan did not have the best relationship with her label. For two years, Megan and 1501 have been very publically battling. Ultimately Megan finished out her contractual obligations and left. However, it just wasn't that simple. Last year, the two butted heads on what was considered an "album" after the rapper dropped Something For Thee Hotties back in October 2021. In a December 2022 ruling, a judge ruled that both Something For The Hotties and her August 2022 LP Traumazine, were contractually considered full-length projects, thus completing her obligations with the label.

This announcement comes after Megan posted a cryptic social media post hinting at starting a new era. The Houston Hottie posted three photos in a row on her Instagram that when you click on her page it reads "Act One."  Each photo has a caption with a carousel of photos that appear to be snippets from an upcoming music video. Take a look at part of her post below:

After a social media hiatus, Megan Thee Stallion is back. Megan dropped off social media after the sentencing of Tory Lanez (born Daystar Peterson). Lanez was found guilty of three charges: first-degree assault with a firearm, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and having a concealed firearm in a vehicle. He shot the rapper in the foot in 2020 after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner's home.

The rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison after his bail motion was denied in September. Prosecutors initially asked for 13 years. Following his sentencing, Lanez wrote a note to his fan base, "The Umbrellas" on Instagram.

Tory's statement read: "In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of," Tory wrote on Instagram. "I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do. I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. To my family, friends, and umbrellas thank you for your continued support. See you soon."

Megan didn't appear in court but she sent a statement in on her behalf.

"He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma," Megan wrote, per Law&Crime reporter  Megan Cuniff. "He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul.

"He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media. He released music videos and songs to damage my character and continue his crusade."

She continued: "At first, he tried to deny the shooting ever happened. Then, he attempted to place the blame on my former best friend. In his tantrum of lies, he’s blamed the system, blamed the press and, as of late, he’s using his childhood trauma to shield himself and avoid culpability."

"For once, the defendant must be forced to face the full consequences of his heinous actions and face justice," she concluded.
