When the weather became threatening, the 7 employees at the Target store offered the store as a shelter for motorists and shoppers. The workers were also stranded, so they made the most of the situation. The stranded people were provided with Starbucks drinks, blankets, portable heaters, and a place to rest and wait out the storm.
One driver had been turned away from a nearby store. She was relieved and overcome with emotion when the Target store opened its doors to her and her family.
The people were able to wait out the storm for two days, since much of the city experienced extreme ice, making travel dangerous.
One guest at the “slumber party” shared her experience on TikTok. She said the first night wasn’t bad, but she did expect to be there at least one additional night. The employees even set up a TV on Christmas Eve so everyone could watch the Bills game.
