Our beloved Bambi is now going to be in a new movie with a dark side.  The new horror film is called “Bambi: The Reckoning,” according to Dread Central.

However, this won’t be the first childhood favorite to become a slasher film. Earlier this year, we learned about a remake of Winnie The Pooh, called “Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey.”

According to IMDB, “Bambi: The Reckoning” is “inspired by the animated movie Bambi,” and “it will transform the innocent deer we know into a killing machine.” The film is being produced by Jagged Edge Production.

From Dread Central, it seems the film will take a revenge angle, following the death of Bambi’s mother.

Scott Jeffrey, who will be directing the film, says it will be “an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love.”  Some of the movie was inspired by Netflix’s “The Ritual.” But in this film, we can expect Bambi to have a violent side.  Jeffrey adds, “Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”

It seems the film may be in production, but no word on a release date at this time.

Have film directors really run out of ideas? Why take childhood classics and remake them in such a gruesome way?
