NEW YORK, NY - NOVEMBER 20: (L-R) Phife Dawg, Q-Tip and Jarobi White of A Tribe Called Quest perform at Barclays Center on November 20, 2013 in New York City.

This morning, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2022 ballot, which included legendary hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, as well as Eminem. Artists are eligible 25 years after their first release; this is Eminem’s first year of eligibility. A Tribe Called Quest’s first single, “Description of a Fool,” was released in 1989, so they’ve been eligible since 2014.

Hip-hop artists who are already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A., Tupac Shakur, the Notorious B.I.G. and Jay Z. Last year, LL Cool J was presented with the Award for Musical Excellence, after being on the ballot for a few years and not being voted in. Eligible artists who have not been inducted yet include Eric B. & Rakim, Queen Latifah, Boogie Down Productions, Ice-T, Nas, the Wu-Tang Clan and the Roots. None of those artists, besides Eric B. & Rakim, have been on the ballot yet.

The other nominees include Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, DEVO, Duran Duran, the Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, the MC5, the New York Dolls, Dolly Parton, Rage Against the Machine, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and Dionne Warwick.

The 2022 inductees will be announced in May. Details pertaining to the induction ceremony have not been confirmed, but the 2022 induction is heavily rumored to be taking place in Los Angeles.

As with previous years, the public will have the opportunity to voice their choice via the Fan Vote at RockHall.com starting today (February 2) through April 30. Fans are allowed to vote once per day during the Fan Vote period. Visitors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland will also have the opportunity to vote in person. The “Fans’ Ballot” will be comprised of the top five artists from the fan vote and will be counted among the other ballots filled out by various artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
