There’s nothing more annoying than getting dressed in morning and finding a stubborn stain on clean clothes. It happens to me a lot – usually food stains from cooking.

I’ve thrown out so many clothes because they had grease, pasta & other stains that would never come out with typical stain removers. I wish I had known about this hack sooner!

The best part is, you only need three basic ingredients – and you probably already have everything on hand!

The process is very simple, but can take more time for extra-stubborn stains. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Spread liquid dish detergent all over the stained area.

Step 2: Spread a thick coat of baking soda over the dish detergent and spread it thoroughly. You’ll want to let this set for about an hour, although for very difficult stains (like grease or chili/pasta), I will let it set for up to 24 hours. After letting the soap/baking soda set for however long you choose, you’re ready for the next step.

Step 3: Pour white vinegar over the area. A little goes a long way with the vinegar, because it foams up when you pour it on the baking soda/soap mixture. Spread the vinegar foam all over and again, you’ll let this set for an hour (or longer for those stubborn stains.)

Step 4: After letting the vinegar set on the soap/baking soda mixture, you’ll just wash & dry the clothes as usual, with detergent (I usually add some laundry scent beads too, to fight that stinky white vinegar smell!)  Like magic, they’ll come out as good as new! (If there are still remnants of the stain after washing, you can repeat the process.)

This stain removing hack has worked for me on everything from cherry Kool Aid on white carpet, dried blood on white sheets, week old pasta/chili sauce stains, and more. Although it involves a lot of waiting, it’s worth it to avoid having to get rid of otherwise good clothes!
