LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 11: Laverne Cox attends the premiere of Columbia Pictures' "Charlie's Angels" at Westwood Regency Theater on November 11, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

Laverne Cox is portraying a hairdresser again. The Alabama native previously portrayed, Sophia Burset, a hairstylist on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, and now she’s styling hair in Hulu’s new forthcoming thriller Bad Hair. However, in this flick, Cox’s character comes off more chilling and perhaps may raise the hair on the arms of the film’s viewers.

Directed by Justin Simien, the creator of Netflix’s Dear White People, the film also features a myriad of stars, including Blair Underwood, Vanessa Williams, Lena Waithe, Usher, Kelly Rowland, and MC Lyte.”You’re not tender-headed are you?” Cox can be heard asking a hair client at the beginning of Bad Hair‘s trailer. “I’ll be fine,” the client responds.

“Clients swear this stuff is magic,” Cox then says while continuing to style her customer’s hair. “You know in some parts of India a woman’s hair is her most prized possession,” Cox continues before Blair Underwood begins speaking while at a dinner table.

“You can’t bear to see yourself the way nature would have you. And yous scoff at us and our superstitions,” Underwood says in the trailer. “Well, those superstitions are in fact tributaries leading to rivers of truth about what you really are and about who you might have been.”

The movie drops on the streaming platform on October 23, just in time for Halloween, which makes sense for the horror that offers up satire on a platter. Elle Lorraine also stars in the film as a career woman working in entertainment. She decides to cover up her natural hair with a straight weave in order to get ahead and also have a “broadly appealing” look on television. However, her weave seems to possess her. Watch the trailer below.
