The Day After Christmas Brings Blowout Sales

It’s that time of year again: the day after Christmas, with its blowout sales and deep discounts.

While the final tally isn’t in, retail sales in the run-up to Christmas were largely disappointing, according to most reports. So now is the time of year when stores start slashing prices. And it seems that extra discounts will be in store, especially for those willing to visit a physical location.

Physical inventory is high at national chains where pre-Christmas discounts were already steep. Gap and its Old Navy and Banana Republic stores already had slashed prices up to 50 percent off, and Kohl KSS +0.00% round the clock sale through Dec. 24 should give shoppers a taste of what’s in store after Dec. 25.

Bed Bath & Beyond BBBY +0.00% warned investors of a slow season and shoppers can expect that to translate into big deals on merchandise.

But department stores may well be the best destination for deep deal seekers.
